South West Veterinary Physiotherapy is run by Laura De'Ath a NAVP accredited Veterinary Physiotherapist, providing physiotherapy services for horses and dogs in the South West, covering Somerset, Dorset and East Devon. Laura qualified as a Veterinary Physiotherapist by gaining a first class BSc (Hons) Veterinary Physiotherapy degree at Harper Adams University.
"My interest in physiotherapy sparked from a young age, stemming from my interest in riding and competing, as well as hands on experiences in rehabilitation with my first horse. From the age of 15, I was the sole carer of a horse who suffered Impinging Dorsal Spinous Processes (IDSP) commonly known as kissing spine; and it was through the rehabilitation process which inspired me to become a Veterinary Physiotherapist sparking my love for the profession.
I have previously competed at regional level in showjumping and dressage, and have been involved in training younger horses for owners. I am therefore able to offer guidance in remedial exercise and ridden work to promote harmony between horse and rider. Tuition in all aspects of rehabilitative exercise is also available.
On the canine side, having worked at Physio-Vet in Cheshire, I became inspired to work in all aspects of canine rehabilitation, in addition to improving performance in the working dog and the agility dog.
I always treasure the time I spend with my family's dogs, Scrumpy, Snowy, Pumba and Timmy. Pumba was diagnosed with Neospora Canium at 12 weeks old affecting his sciatic nerve pathway. Despite a rapid neurological recovery, Pumba has developed hip dysplasia which is also being managed conservatively; read more about Pumba's story in my blog"
